The ACCME Accreditation Workshop is an essential professional development opportunity for those who are new to accredited continuing education (CE). Join us in Chicago on August 4-5 for an in-person-only workshop to learn more about the ACCME’s requirements and expectations for accreditation, including an in-depth look at the Standards and Integrity for Independence in Accredited CE, and how to position your organization to pursue Accreditation with Commendation. Together we will explore strategies for planning effective CE that supports your learners, your organization, and the community you serve.

    Who should attend this workshop?

    • Are you a new CE staff or committee member seeking  orientation to the CE landscape?
    • Do you need help connecting your understanding of ACCME requirements to practices within your CE program?
    • Would you like to develop strategies to communicate with the planners of your CE activities more effectively?
    • Are you looking for an opportunity to share ideas and network with your CE/CPD colleagues?
    • Would you like to find out what resources and tools are available to answer your questions about ACCME requirements?
    • Are you thinking about pursuing ACCME accreditation? Check if your organization is eligible for accreditation here.

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, we have designed this workshop with you in mind!

    Formats & Features

The workshop is designed to help you apply your understanding of ACCME requirements into practice within your CE program. We encourage you to be an active participant in the workshop and have included a variety of interactive sessions to help meet your individual learning needs.

    • Our agenda includes vignettes, cases, and examples throughout the workshop to help get you engaged and invested in the content. In order to be an active participant, you will need to spend some time prior to the meeting completing courses in ACCME Academy.

    • Through breakout sessions, which are small group discussions, participants will explore the components of compliance with ACCME Criteria and policies and share practice tips with colleagues. Previous workshop attendees often share the value they’ve found in the breakout sessions – this time to interact with peers is essential to simplifying and evolving their CE programs. We’re confident that you will also walk away with new strategies.

    • The agenda includes topic-based elective sessions, which will allow you to hear about and discuss specific topics that are important to your organization.

All of the sessions throughout the workshop are designed to facilitate active learning, allow time for your questions, and help you make a plan to apply what you have learned to everyday practice. You will have many opportunities over the day and a half to engage in discussions with ACCME staff, faculty, and your own colleagues.

    Optional Newcomers' Orientation Session

For those who are in the very beginning stages of their CME careers, we offer an additional, optional pre-workshop session – Newcomers' Introduction to Accredited Continuing Education â€“ on Wednesday, August 3, from 12:30 - 5:30 pm CDT.

We recommend this session to those who have been in CME for 1 year or less. The intent of this pre-workshop session is to introduce the beginner participant to CME (and ACCME) basics so they can prepare for and get the most out of the workshop. During the session, ACCME staff will introduce participants to:

    • The terminology of CE.
    • Key stakeholders with whom they may interact in CE, including representatives from licensure, certification, and CME credit systems.
    • The ACCME's accreditation system and how it works.

In addition, this session is an opportunity to meet with other newcomers prior to the workshop.

This pre-conference session is available for an additional $250 and includes registration, activity materials, and afternoon refreshments. Simply select one of the "+ Newcomers' Pre-Conference" ticket options.
